John Lewis was the pianist for the famed Modern Jazz Quartet who brought sophistication and classical music into the realm of jazz. Rounding out the quartet were Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Percy Heath on base, and Coney Kay on drums. Lewis was the musical director of the group and wide musical background brought them their unique sound. The music in this sculpture was written as an homage to John Lewis by my wife the jazz pianist and singer Karen Lehrer.
